There are times when we need to be held and we go in search of those who know how to hold. I started seeing a CranioSacral therapist almost 21 years ago in response to some challenges I was facing with my physical health. After my first session, I sat quietly in a cafe and pondered what I had just experienced. I observed that my head felt more spacious and free. I noticed that my breath moved in and out of my body with greater ease. Most interestingly, though, I settled into an awareness that I was having a deeper, more conscious experience of myself as a living being. This was exciting to me and I realized that something new and important was opening up in my healing process.
I continued to receive CranioSacral Therapy once a week for some time. Over the next few months, my physical and emotional health started to improve and I began to inhabit my body more comfortably. I started receiving Swedish and Deep Tissue massage and was impressed by how gracefully my body moved toward balance with just a little bit of support. I fed myself healthfully and started taking much better care of myself.
This was the beginning of a path that led me away from my career as a social worker, and toward my intention to learn and practice CranioSacral Therapy. My hope was to develop the ability to support people to heal and grow from the inside out.
I became a Massage Therapist in San Francisco, CA, in 2005, after completing a certification in Zen Shiatsu. Learning Shiatsu and studying Traditional Chinese Medicine provided a valuable framework for the art of working with the body and it's natural energy systems. Soon after, I began my training in CranioSacral Therapy with the Upledger Institute. I eagerly began to practice my new skills on friends and family, and excitedly watched my work evolve and grow, as my subjects reaped tangible benefits from the work we did together. After moving to Texas in 2007, I completed a Swedish massage certification and received training in Deep Tissue massage from the Lauterstein-Conway School. I received my Texas massage license in 2008 and grew a successful private practice over ten years in Austin and Westlake. In addition to my private practice, I had the valuable experience of working with a gifted Chiropractor, refining my skills not only in CranioSacral Therapy, but also in structural and postural bodywork. In June of 2018, my husband and I relocated to Asheville, NC for new adventures. My North Carolina Massage and Bodywork Therapy License was approved July 6, 2018, and I currently see clients out of our home in South Asheville.
In my evolution as a Bodyworker, I have worked with men, women, children, and infants with diverse issues of body, mind, and spirit. My work changes and transforms with each new individual that comes to my practice. I continue to be grateful for the opportunity to support individuals on a quest for greater well-being. This work toward wellness transfers from individuals to the community, and it is ever exciting to be a support to the process of humans expanding into who they are truly meant to be.
